Position: Electrical Engineer

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, develop, and supervise the production of intrinsically safe power supplies, charging circuits, battery packs, and interface circuitry for portable voice communication, radio, mesh network, and processing equipment, systems, and subsystems.
  • Utilize OrCAD or similar software to develop schematics and Gerber files.
  • Source and procure materials and equipment needed for production of prototype, beta, and production systems, and assemble/build/integrate the designs.
  • Develop and implement test plans for pre-and post-production testing of circuits and equipment.
  • Anticipate and identify customers’ needs and translate them into design specifications.
  • Develop familiarity with the Mine Safety and Health Administrations (MSHA) Intrinsic Safety (IS) and Explosion Proof (XP) requirements, and ensure system design meets those requirements.
  • Develop MSHA Intrinsic Safety application packages.
  • Communicate engineering specifications with the Navigation Software developers, RF engineers, and Mechanical engineers to ensure system compatibility and functionality.
  • Develop reports as required in support of the project, including identification and monitoring of project milestones, and participate in daily interaction with other teams to discuss progress and project status.

Education:BSEE degree

Experience applicable to position:
  • Background or experience with Intrinsic Safety or ATEX requirements and design.
  • Background in rugged equipment for industrial/hostile environments.
  • Experience in concept, prototyping, and beta design evolutions.
  • Power supply and charging circuitry design experience.
  • Extensive PC board layout and design.
  • Experience working with mechanical design for form fit and function, interface, manufacturing, integration, and testing experience.
  • Experience and proficiency with C++, Visual Basic, and MatLab are a plus.
  • Experience with RF systems, including receivers and transmitters, and VOIP.
  • Experience with using various types of test equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Background in RCA (Root Cause Analysis) failure analysis.
  • Experience with writing technical test reports.
  • Good communication skills are a necessity.

Other: This position can be part–time, full–time (salaried), or contract, depending on qualifications and availability. Salary is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience. It will be on–site at InSeT Systems office in the Akron Global Business Accelerator, and will involve occasional travel to perform testing in coal mines in the Ohio, West Virginia, or Pennsylvania areas. The candidate shall be capable of lifting 75 pounds, and must be able to occasionally work in an underground coal mine environment.

Position: Software Engineer

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, develop, integrate and test the software for the integration of navigation data and voice communications for transmission via a mesh network.
  • Prepare and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
  • Communicate engineering specifications with the Navigation Software developers, RF engineers, Electrical Engineers, and Mechanical engineers to ensure system compatibility and functionality.
  • Evaluate and identify new technologies for implementation.
  • Integrate software with existing systems.
  • Design source code level application software routines including data extraction, navigation application programs, and integration of software modules.
  • Integrate GIS, AutoCAD, and various applications software into mapping programs for graphic representation of components of the underground network and tracking and communication devices.
  • Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions.
  • Source and procure materials and equipment needed for development, integration, and testing of software for prototype, beta, and production systems.
  • Develop and implement test plans for pre-and post-production testing of software, processors, and interfaces.
  • Participate in project planning and project management.
  • Develop familiarity with the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s (MSHA) Intrinsic Safety (IS) and Explosion Proof (XP) requirements.
  • Assist with the development of MSHA certification application packages.

Education:BSCS degree

Experience applicable to position:
  • C, C++, Visual Basic, SQL Server, MySQL, Perl, HTML, Python, MatLab, Java, .NET, BEA WebLogic, WebSphere, J2EE, JBoss, ADO, JSP, JavaScript, Web services, SOAP, XML, ASP, JSP, PHP, Oracle, UNIX, Linux, STL, XSLT, OWL, AJAX.
  • Experience with development, integration, and testing of code for FPGA applications.
  • Background or experience with Intrinsic Safety, XP, or ATEX requirements and design is a plus.
  • Background in rugged equipment for industrial/hostile environments.
  • Experience in concept, prototyping, and beta design evolutions.
  • Experience in communicating requirements for mechanical design for form, fit, and function; interface protocol; manufacturing specifications; integration; and testing.
  • Experience with RF systems, including receivers and transmitters, and VOIP.

  • Experience with writing technical test reports.
